The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of three dedicated law enforcement officers who tragically lost their lives following a collision on Southern Boulevard near Seminole Pratt Whitney Road in Loxahatchee on November 21, 2024.

Corporal Luis Paez and Deputy Sheriff Butch Waller were struck and killed at the scene, while Deputy Sheriff Dan Diaz succumbed to his injuries four days later.

The incident occurred when the deputies responded to assist a colleague whose patrol motorcycle had become disabled following a traffic stop. As they waited for additional help, a vehicle traveling east on Southern Boulevard attempted to pass a slower vehicle, overcompensated, and struck all three deputies. A responding deputy witnessed the tragic collision.

Corporal Paez had honorably served the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for 36 years, including over 20 years as a motor officer. Deputy Waller dedicated 18 years of service to the community, and Deputy Diaz faithfully served for over 20 years.

Their courage, commitment, and sacrifice will forever be remembered.

Liberty Call Distillery in San Diego, California, creates this commemorative bottle. The company is marine-owned and a friend to all first responders. The bottle is superior to other engravings. It is sandblasted, not just etched, and pays true honor to every fallen first responder it is created for.

The whiskey is first aged in new 53-gallon, medium-charred American oak barrels for 2 years. Then, it is rested in-barrel with Chilean Amburana oak staves.  It creates a uniquely sweet, yet spicy bourbon whiskey. It has hints of gingerbread and fresh vanilla on the nose. There is a pronounced sweetness on the palate. It shows touches of oak, spice cake, nutmeg, and light brown sugar.

The bottles can be shipped across the U.S., except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, Mississippi, and Utah.

A Way to Remember Heroes

I knew two of these brave men and felt it was the best way to not only honor them but to keep their memories alive. This memorial bottle will never be opened, will always remain visible and show respect for their service and legacies.

Backing the Blue

I was pleased with the bottle design, very thoughtful, but not have had a chance to taste the bourbon. I like the idea of a portion of the purchase price going to a law enforcement charity. I will let you know how much I enjoy the bourbon when I drink it! Thank you.
