The First Responder Whiskey Society is releasing a memorial whiskey bottle honoring fallen Newport News Police Officer Katie Thyne.  This bottle is being created and released with permission and in collaboration with Officer Thyne's family. Our charity will donate 100% of the net proceeds to Officer Thyne's family.

Newport News Police Officer Katie Thyne died after being dragged by a vehicle while conducting an investigation.

She and her partner were investigating reports of drug activity when they approached a car along the 1400 block of 16th Street in Newport News. During the investigation, the driver sped off, dragging Police Officer Thyne for a block. The vehicle struck a tree, and Officer Thyne was pinned between the tree and the vehicle door.

Officer Thyne was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and charged with felony homicide, evading and eluding, and possession of narcotics. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the narcotics charges in April 2021. He was convicted of second-degree murder and hit-and-run in November 2022.

Officer Thyne was a United States Navy veteran and served with the Newport News Police Department for approximately one year. She is survived by her 2-year-old daughter, mother, three brothers, and grandparents.

This commemorative bottle of whiskey has been created by Liberty Call Distilling in San Diego California. The company is Marine owned and a friend to all first responders. The bottle boasts superior quality work compared to other engravings because it is sandblasted, not just etched.

The Liberty Call Family takes great pride in creating the exceptional taste of Double Wood Bourbon. This is a labor of love, with every batch being carefully tasted through each step of the aging process to ensure the highest quality in every bottle.

It all begins with the meticulous selection of only the finest 53-gallon medium charred American Oak barrels, where the bourbon will first age for up to 3 years.

While an outstanding bourbon emerges from this step alone, they decided to go above and beyond in pursuit of unrivaled taste. That’s why they finish every batch in ten-gallon medium charred American Oak barrels for a minimum of 6 months. By exposing the bourbon to 5 times more wood, they achieve a deep amber in the glass. With hints of oak and spice on the nose between soft vanilla notes, there is a pronounced sweetness on the palate while showing touches of caramel and dark chocolate.

The bottles can be shipped across the United States except for the restricted states of Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Utah, and Virginia.

Please allow 7-10 business days for processing and 3-5 business days for shipping as each bottle is custom made per order.
