Police Officer Darrin McMichael of the Arlington Police Department in Texas was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Interstate 20 near St. Augustine Drive at 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023. While riding his department motorcycle to work, Officer McMichael collided with the back of an SUV when traffic suddenly stopped in front of him, causing him to fall onto the roadway. Before he could get up, another vehicle ran over him and drove away. He was transported to Baylor Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver, a convicted felon, was issued a warrant in 2024 while in a Mississippi jail for parole violations.

Officer McMichael had served with the Arlington Police Department for 24 years and was assigned to the Motorcycle Unit for 13 years. His wife also serves with the agency.

He was 51 years old at the time of his passing.

Officer McMichael's dedication and service have left an indelible mark on the Arlington community, and he is remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

----------

Liberty Call Distillery in San Diego, California, creates this commemorative bottle. The company is marine-owned and a friend to all first responders. The bottle is superior to other engravings. It is sandblasted, not just etched, and pays true honor to every fallen first responder it is created for.

The whiskey is first aged in new 53-gallon, medium-charred American oak barrels for up to 8 years. Then, it is rested in-barrel with Chilean Amburana oak staves.  It creates a uniquely sweet, yet spicy bourbon whiskey. It has hints of gingerbread and fresh vanilla on the nose. There is a pronounced sweetness on the palate. It shows touches of oak, spice cake, nutmeg, and light brown sugar.

The bottles can be shipped across the U.S., except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, Mississippi, and Utah.
