Deputy Sheriff Charlie Riley was shot and killed while assisting another officer who was interviewing a suspect at the Iberville Parish Courthouse at 58050 Merram Street in Plaquemine.

Around 8:00 p.m., a detective was interrogating a man as part of a sexual assault investigation. When he attempted to place the man under arrest, the suspect took his gun, and a struggle ensued. The suspect grabbed the gun and began firing, striking the detective. When Deputy Riley entered the room to assist, he was also struck. Despite being hit, he followed the suspect into the hallway and called for back-up before fatally falling, never firing his weapon.

Both deputies were transported to a hospital, where Deputy Riley succumbed to his wounds. The other deputy survived his wounds.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputy Riley was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department for six years. He previously served with the Gonzales Police Department. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, a goddaughter, parents, a sister, and two brothers.

Honor Bound Spirits in San Diego, California, creates this commemorative bottle. The company is marine-owned and a friend to all first responders. The bottle is superior to other engravings. It is sandblasted, not just etched, and pays true honor to every fallen first responder it is created for.

The whiskey is first aged in new 53-gallon, medium-charred American oak barrels for up to 8 years. Then, it is rested in-barrel with Chilean Amburana oak staves.  It creates a uniquely sweet, yet spicy bourbon whiskey. It has hints of gingerbread and fresh vanilla on the nose. There is a pronounced sweetness on the palate. It shows touches of oak, spice cake, nutmeg, and light brown sugar.

The bottles can be shipped across the United States except for the restricted states of Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, and Utah.
