Police Officer Matthew Ruge, Police Officer Paul Elmstrand, and Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth were shot and killed after responding to a domestic incident in the 12600 block of 33rd Avenue at about 2:00 am.

A man who was a convicted felon had taken several family members hostage, including seven children, and barricaded himself inside the home.

Officer Ruge, Officer Elmstrand, and two other officers had been negotiating inside the house with the man, who claimed to be unarmed. After three and a half hours of negotiation, the subject fired on the officers suddenly at 5:26 a.m. Two officers returned fire, wounding the subject in the leg. While Officer Ruge and a Burnsville Police Department sergeant were exiting the home, they were struck a second time. Burnsville Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth was shot while he was trying to help the wounded officers to an armored vehicle. The man continued to shoot at officers from an upstairs window.

Officer Ruge, Officer Elmstraud, and Paramedic Finseth were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where they succumbed to their wounds. The sergeant was treated and released.

The man committed suicide and was found deceased in the home at about 10:15 am. The investigation revealed that the subject fired more than 100 rounds at the officers. The hostages were able to escape safely.

They are gone but never forgotten.

This commemorative bottle of whiskey has been created by Liberty Call Distilling in San Diego California. The company is marine owned and a friend to all first responders. The bottle boasts superior quality work compared to other engravings because it is sandblasted, not just etched.

The whiskey is first aged in new 53 gallon medium charred American oak barrels for 2 years then rested in-barrel with Chilean Amburana Oak staves.  They’ve created a uniquely sweet, yet spicy bourbon whiskey. With hints of gingerbread and fresh vanilla on the nose, there is a pronounced sweetness on the palate while showing touches of oak, spice cake, nutmeg, and light brown sugar.

The bottles can be shipped across the United States except for the restricted states of Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Utah, and Virginia.

The bottle etching was messed up

I am a little disappointed with the etching on the bottle I received. The Burnsville PD badge is messed up. Is it possible to swap it with another?

Awesome tribute!

Although I have not decided whether or not I'm going to open it, I'll have this bottle on my top shelf behind my basement bar forever. Just a really cool way to honor those who sacrifice there lives to protect and serve. We'll done!
